07.06.2005: Cork City VEC running out-of-date computer aided drafting (CAD) tutorials. City and Guilds courses for CAD that are run by Cork City VEC are not up to the job of providing proper skills for architectural technicians or interior designers. Graduates are leaving colleges with little more than rudimentary CAD skills. Overall the standard of architectural drawing in ireland is slipping with knock on consequences for the building trade and for new home owners.

05.06.2005: - APATHY. newcorkcity spoke to a number of people who felt frustrated that cork city council is not listening to the people of cork and that nothing will be done to improve things. newcorkcity may be able to help but only with the support of the people......

Also the conference on Homelessness Cork on 24th and 25th of May in Millenium Hall, Cork.
the report: newcorkcity thought there was an atmosphere of progress at the conference. simon community stated that the infrastructure (i.e. houses) are now more or less in place, but there remains the task of supporting the individual to ensure self-empowerment. though there is a lot more work to do, the future certainly does look bright. ncc challenged the city council and the cork chamber of commerce to give ncc or associated parties a space in the coal quay to employ three homeless people, and 20 square metres of floor space in mahon point shopping centre to employ a further five people selling crafts, books, and merchandise under a strong newly created brand. simon community were very supportive of the initiative. ncc awaits a constructive response from the city council and the cork chamber of commerce. thanks especially to collete kelleher of simon cork who was instrumental in organising the conference.
